First Steps at Cansfield is situated in Ashton in Makerfield. The nursery is purpose built with separate play areas for the birth to 3 unit and the pre-school children. There is a large pre-school room that accommodates 24 children aged 3-5 years, but could have up to 32 children due to its large space. There is also a birth to three unit that accommodates up to 19 children aged 6 weeks to 3 years.

We offer free funded places for 2, 3 and 4 year olds, we try to offer sessions on a flexible basis allowing you the freedom to choose sessions to suit your individual needs, however this is not always possible due to the ratios we need to adhere to.

All the children enjoy dining together each day as we have a separate room for dining breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea are all served in there. We have our own kitchen and cook, which means we are able to meet any individual dietary needs of children with ease and ensuring that foods are prepared in a way that children do not feel any different to any of the others.

The nursery provides full time and part-time sessions, and flexible delivery for the children who are in receipt of 2, 3 and 4 year government funding places are allocated according to individual needs of the families and children, and can be term-time only or stretched if the parent needs more weeks.

We provide Out of school care for children 3 - 11 years of; breakfast club, afterschool club and holiday care. Both services run for 51 weeks each year. This base for the out of school club is R L Hughes primary school.
